Rove Mobile SSH

I know it has been a while since my last post, but this Blog really isn't meant to be a regular thing.  I plan on updating it when I've got some spare time and something really cool to share that a quick tweet won't do.  Today, let me tell you about Rove Mobile SSH.  We recently upgraded our mobile devices at work to new Blackberry Torch 9800s.  With the increased screen real estate I was looking for increased capabilities to remotely manage our devices without my laptop.  First things first, I thought a telnet/ssh client would be perfect for my network devices (and Linux servers).

Rove Mobile SSH is a free application on the Blackberry App World made by (appropriately named) Rove.  They have several other products, but Mobile SSH is their telnet/ssh/tn5250/tn3270 client.  It works simple enough, you use the Blackberry Menu button to bring up menu options and you can choose NEW.

Choosing how you want to connect

After you've typed in your IP address/connection type/credentials (I high recommend you DO NOT do this) you can save the connection settings and connect.  One of the great features is choosing how you want to connect.  If this is a connection protected from the Internet (ie. a Linux server at the office) you can choose "BES/MDS" and have the connection tunneled through your Blackberry Enterprise Server.  For remote support of your office internal devices, this is critical.

Once your ready to connect you'll be prompted for your ID/Password combination and to accept any SSH keys (if applicable).

Voila!  You're in and can check those resources when someone complains the server is slow!

All in all, I'm extremely pleased with this application!  Rove Mobile SSH goes on my "must-have" applications for Blackberry OS and will permanently be on my phone.  Oh yeah, did I mention is FREE???
